Moving In

Pasco County Board of County Commissioners is the legislative and policy-making body of the County Government. The five members of the Board of County Commissioners are elected Countywide from districts. The Board appoints the County Administrator and the County Attorney and confirms the appointment of department heads. The Board establishes policies through the enactment of ordinances and adoption of resolutions.

Establish Florida Residency
  • Obtain a Florida driver’s license and plates for your automobile
  • Notify taxing officials of your change of residence.
  • File future Federal Income Tax Returns in Florida
  • File Florida Intangible Tax Returns in Florida
  • Register to vote
  • File a Declaration of Domicile in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court in which you intend to reside.
  • Own or lease and occupy a dwelling Florida.
  • File for the homestead property tax exemption for you residence in Florida
Voter Registration

To vote you must:

  1. Be a U.S. citizen
  2. A Florida resident
  3. Be 18 years old
  4. Not claim the right to vote in another county or state

Taxes

There is no state income or inheritance tax. Pasco County is currently at the minimum of 7% sales tax. The Florida Intangible Tax is a tax imposed by the state on certain assets owned by Florida residents.

The Homestead exemption is a constitutional guarantee that reduces the assessed value of residential property up to $25,000 for qualified permanent residents of Florida. Commercial usage of property is not subject to the exemption. Applications must be filed with the Property Appraiser’s office between January 1 and March 1. For more information call (813) 929-1280.

Driver's License

The following is required to transfer a valid out of state license to Florida:
• Surrender of the out of state license
• Social Security Card
• Vision Test
License Plates
The following is required to obtain a Florida license plate when coming from another state:
• Title to the vehicle
• Proof of Florida Auto Insurance for that vehicle
• Driver's License
• Bring that vehicle to verify it's vin number

Transfer License plate from another county in Florida:
• You need to change your address on your driver's license
